Does the world really need yet another photo of the Grand Canyon? In other words, why do landscape photography? The short answer is that I’m not doing it for the world, I’m doing it for me. Landscape is very important to me. I look at it. I walk over and through it. I smell and breathe and feel it. Photography structures and intensifies my experience, and intensifies my emotional and intellectual connection. I have to look more closely and for longer to create my images. And then I revisit the experience again and again when I process and present them.
